Laverne was found panting on the side of Palm Ave. in Northern San Bernardino on a hot June day - it was well over 100 degrees. She, and her friend (perhaps sister or even mother?) Shirley, found a spot in the shade and lay there for two to three days as neighbors frantically tried to help, leaving food and water, and posting urgent pleas for rescue.

Neither were obvious street dogs - they were walking right in front of cars and did not seem street savvy at all. They were scared when people tried to approach, but we finally won them over with hot dogs. Sweet Laverne was the first to accept us - she laid on her back, wagged her tail, and accepted a belly rub. 

Since then, she and Shirley have lived in a loving foster home. Laverne is a very small Lab mix - just over 25 lbs. The lab in her LOVES water. She splashes around in the baby pool and swims in the in-ground family pool. She is a sweet wiggle butt, who is just getting used to the idea that she is safe in a loving foster home where she does not need to be scared. Leash walking is new to her. She is wonderful and gentle with kids, other dogs, cats - everyone. Laverne would make an excellent addition to any family. She is the PERFECT summer dog!
