Oh Cade has quite the story. He wound up injured at San Bernardino City Shelter as “Katie” because he came in with a tag identifying him as Katie. Because of his injury, he was whisked off to the shelter vet before anyone could determine his gender. At the shelter vet they determined he had a brachial plexus avulsion from either being hit by a car or falling from a considerable height. A brachial plexus avulsion means the nerves are completely severed by some form of trauma, causing permament (usually) paralysis in the affected limb. Because the limb has no feeling and is unusable, amputation is recommended once it is established there is no feeling after several weeks to avoid injury and infection from dragging, or self mutilation. 

Cade got used to walking on three legs as we waited and hoped his nerves might regenerate, so the day after surgery he was up and walking around like nothing happened! This amazing survivor boy will be ready for adoption in a few weeks once we get the OK from his ortho surgeon. Tripods live their lives like any other dog, running, playing and happy as can be! Adopt a tripod!
